Revision [139]

This is an old revision of Hunting made by Loc on 2012-02-22 12:48:40.

This is a general skill of tracking and bagging animals for trophies or food.
This skill is used to over come the natural abilities of game animals, from rabbits and other small game, to that of bears and similar dangerous torphy animals.
If the character's Perception score beats the prey's Perception score they are able to find the animal they are hunting.

Attribute: Perception

Methods

Blood Trail - Perception +2
If the prey is wounded but still alive, the hunter may use this method.

Concealment - Perception +1
The hunter makes themselves less visible.

Quiet - Perception +1
The hunter makes as little noise as possible.

Shot Placement- Perception +1
Every hunter knows the best way to bring an animal down quickly and cleanly is placing your shot properly. The most common is the heart and lungs area.

Track Spore- Perception +1
Finding the tracks and signs of animals is more difficult then it sounds. It take s a practiced eye.

Know Habits- Intelligence +1
Hunters school themselves on how thier quarry reacts and where it lives. Knowing that a specific animal dens in tall grass, and prefers to hide when danger is around can make the difference between a trophy to show and a "It got away" Story.

Tricks

Stalk and Shoot
You move slowly through the landscape watching for signs of your quarry in hopes of noticing it before it can notice you.
Subtract the prey's Perception score from the character's Perception Score and the result is added to the Hunter's Agility score if the number is positive but deducts from it if negative.
Stalk and Shoot can not be used with Beat the Brush or Bait and Wait.

Beat the Brush
The hunter stands at a good vantage point as an NPC, either human or trained dogs push through the perimeter of the area to be hunted. Prey is funneled toward the hunter so choosing the proper location for the hunter to stand is important to success.
Subtract the Prey's Perception score from the character's Intelligence Score and the result is added to the Hunter's Agility score if the number is positive but deducts from it if negative.
Pre-requsite: Having NPC help, or trained dogs.
Beat the Brush can not be used with Stalk and Shoot or Bait and Wait.

Bait and Wait
Hiding on an elevated perch you wait for your target animal to take the bait. Often a live animal tied to a stake. This is a slow process and could lead to the hunter being out all night waiting for a chance.
Subtract the Prey's Perception score from the character's Will Score and the result is added to the Hunter's Agility score if the number is positive but deducts from it if negative.
Can not be used with Beat the Brush or Stalk & Shoot.
